Small Space Living - Tips and Advice

If your new place isn't going to give you the space you need, we have some tips to help you get the most of your square footage before you move.
Small Space Living - Tips and Advice

If you are presently moving from your parent’s house into your first apartment, you may feel like you will have tons of room in your new place. The reality is that the space in your apartment will fill up fast. A small apartment can be tricky in arranging all your stuff and still have walking paths from the kitchen to the bedroom. If you have lived in a house before the move, you will already be feeling a little claustrophobic when you move into your apartment. Here are some small space living tips and advice.

Before You Pack

The first step is done before the packing begins. This will take some “letting go” on your part. Go through your stuff. Starting with your clothes, if you haven’t worn the item in the last year, chances are you won’t wear it this year or the following year either. Go ahead and donate those clothes to a family in need, or local thrift store. Do the same for your other stuff, such as half filled bottles of lotions, perfumes, and hair products that you no longer use.

Books and Magazines

If you have a stack of magazines, flip through them, tear out the articles you want to keep, and toss the rest. If there are no articles you want to keep, donate the magazines to the library or even the local hospital. The same goes for books. Keep your favorites and donate the others.

Lightening your load of items will not only make packing easier, but will be the first step in giving your apartment more space.
